Frequently asked questions
How does CostWatch detect a spike?
It builds a rolling baseline for your daily total and for each service, then flags days that clear a statistical threshold or a percentage jump. Both are tunable per subscription, and reservation purchases are separated out so an expected annual bill never reads as a runaway resource.
What access does CostWatch need in my tenant?
One app registration with the built-in Reader role scoped to a single subscription. Read-only, no write access, no Microsoft Graph permissions and no admin consent. The client secret is stored encrypted and only ever used to read cost and resource data.
How is this different from Azure Cost Analysis or Advisor?
Cost Analysis is a query tool you have to remember to open. Advisor is a generic list every tool resells. CostWatch watches for you, tells you the day something changes, names the resource, and cross-references utilization so it can tell you to delete something rather than resize it.
Is this Azure only?
Azure only today, deliberately. Depth in one cloud beats a shallow view of three.
Do I have to connect Azure to try it?
